Hypnotherapy can help you to view the world in a new way. This is why it is such a useful tool for overcoming fears and anxiety, building confidence and kicking out old habits. Within the hypnotic state, we can by-pass the barriers to our inner thoughts and feelings. Suggestions are acted upon much more powerfully than is possible in a normal state of mind. Mental imagery can also be utilised to assist you to make changes in your life. The subconscious mind does not distinguish between real and imagined experiences, which are why dreams can feel real.
BRIEF SOLUTON FOCUSED THERAPY
Brief Solution Focused Therapy is a modern form of psychotherapy that aims to make changes as quickly as possible, hence the term 'brief'. Understanding the details and 'cause' of the problem is often not necessary to finding a solution. The important issues are how does the client want things to be different and what will it take to make it happen. BSFT focuses on the future (and how it will be better when things change) and concentrates on establishing clear goals. Goals direct the therapy process and help it remain focused and brief. If we don't know where we're going, we don't know when we've got there.
EGO STATE THERAPY
By our late teens, we have an array of ego states that control our life. These ego states are generally formed during childhood and can affect us in a positive or negative way. Negative 'States' usually come into being as the result of earlier trauma, frustration, pain, misunderstanding, abuse or anger. When we become threatened, stressed, angry or confronted, we react rather than respond and a negative State comes forward, resulting in negative behaviour. Many of these ego states could prevent us from 'growing' and stop us living our lives fully and successfully as we would like. Ego state therapy goes to the source of the problem and deals with the initiating trauma or incident at a sub-conscious level.
EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)
EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that was developed to resolve symptoms resulting from disturbing and unresolved life experiences. It uses a structured approach to address past, present, and future aspects of disturbing memories. The approach was developed by Francine Shapiro to resolve the development of trauma-related disorders as resulting from exposure to a traumatic or distressing event, such as rape or military combat. The therapy has since moved on and been found to be successful with other types of disorders and personal "blocks". Evidence suggests that for many clients EMDR can significantly shorten the length of treatment and enhance results far beyond the scope of being involved in talking therapy alone. The reason for this is that emotional wounds are located in a more primitive part of the brain that is not accessible to language.
